The North Carolina Council for the Social Studies provides grants of up to $1,000 to help teachers make an even greater impact in their classroom, school district, and community through innovative social studies programs.

Rho Kappa Scholarship

The North Carolina Council for the Social Studies offers the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society Scholarship to one North Carolina High School Senior who best exemplifies the core values of the Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society.

Civil Rights/Civil Liberties Excellence in Teaching Award 

North Carolina Council for the Social Studies, in partnership with the Social Studies School Service

 The Civil Rights/Civil Liberties Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes and honors the accomplishments of a social studies educator in the area of civil rights and civil liberties. Nominees inspire students to be fully informed about their civil rights and civil liberties assured by the Constitution. The teacher should be someone who inspires students to take informed action when they see injustices and to be responsible contributing members of our democracy. This award serves to honor a person who is striving to continue their work advancing civil rights and civil liberties. The recipient will be recognized at the annual state social studies conference. 

One $200 cash award and plaque.
